BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Maria de la Luz Vera has been involved and serving in Hispanic Ministry for 24 years, rooted deep in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. She is the administrator and director of the Christian Education Ministry of Christian Church Alliance and Church Power of God, in Pharr, TX, affiliated with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, actively supporting in pastorate. She is also participating in community activities through these churches to distribute food, and teaching English classes, nutrition and citizenship. Currently, Dr. Vera is secretary of the Hispanic Evangelical Ministerial Alliance of the Rio Grande Valley, as well as treasurer of the McAllen area Pastors and Ministries Alliance. She is currently studying for her master’s degree in Theological Studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, from Dallas, TX. She is associate professor of Logos International Leadership Institute, in the area of Pharr, TX. Dr. Vera has participated with the Hispanic Access Foundation as coordinator of community initiatives in the Rio Grande Valley, in the implementation of financial education and tax programs, immigration, student scholarships and cancer prevention, as well as in ecological care and preservation programs of our parks. Dr. Vera earned a M.D. in medicine at the Michoacán University of San Nicolas de Hidalgo, Mexico, and a Master’s in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Dr. Vera’s longing and desire is to be able to be an active part in the teaching and instruction of church members and leaders, so that they develop healthily and reach their full potential to be of impact to society.
